Plan on strolling the galleries on Friday, October 17? The ACLU of Utah and the Salt Lake Art Center have been working all summer to give you the perfect launch for your Gallery Stroll night!
Liberties Under Fire: The ACLU of Utah at 50? opens that very night, and runs through
January 30. The show features amazing works by nationally-recognized artists whose art
highlights some of the critical civil liberties arenas in which the ACLU of Utah has done
battle for years.
To address the issue of Abuse of Power, "Liberties Under Fire?" boasts the arresting political art of Susan Coe. Mexican-born artist Enrique Chagoya?s mind-twisting and colorful pieces highlight the delicate balance of church and state in our lives. Playfully challenging pre-conceptions about LGBT individuals and couples in our country are the humorous and thought-provoking photographs of John Trobaugh. Addressing issues of
racial justice, painting powerhouse Kara Walker pulls no punches with her provocative historical juxtapositions. Hot conceptual artist Jenny Holzer shines a spotlight on the pressing issues of war, torture and imprisonment with her bold reproductions of actual Iraq War documents.
